Quijada
A real donkey jawbone, played by Robert Fernández. The distinctive rattle of Peruvian and Cuban folkloric music.

The quijada is an idiophone made from the jawbone of a donkey, with the original teeth intact. It is traditional in Peru and Cuba, and other countries have adopted it for effects and folkloric music.
I recorded these samples with my good friend Robert Fernández in Phoenix in 2021, along with some of his other rare instruments. I recommend a little reverb, but not too much.
